Team Profiles
Paul Manuell
Paul Manuell has been racing in the New Zealand V8 Touring Car Championship since its early formative years when it was called Tranzam Lights, winning the Championship in 2000.
Paul is 36, married with a two year old daughter, and runs his own automotive repair business, which also has a mobile repair service. Previously he served his apprenticeship and early working years at Oxton Motors.
In his early days he raced motocross and indoor supercross with considerable success, as well as a couple of years racing karts.
His four-wheel motorsport career began in 1996 in a V8 Commodore he built himself and won his class in the Wellington street race.
Paul then became a member of the two-car CAT team with Paul Pedersen where he learned a great deal about the high standards of a semi-professional race team, as well as the benefits of good presentation and merchandising.
Paul then joined ORIX Team Racing, setting up a new team with them, and taking fifth place in the Championship, as well as being awarded the Ashley Stichbury Trophy for good sportsmanship with the ORIX Team receiving the trophy for the best-presented car.
In the past season, which started on a high note at the Pukekohe V8 Supercar meeting with a front-row qualifying position, Manuell's high hopes and expectations of a very successful season were dashed when his car was badly damaged in a high speed crash at Timaru. A huge effort to rebuild the car had it on the grid for the next round at Teretonga but niggling problems kept the car out of the points until it returned to Auckland for a full check. A further crash at Taupo concluded a season that promised so much but ultimately was very disappointing.
Wayne Anderson
Unrelated to Mike, Wayne is part of the family that owns Pinepac Construction and Building Supplies in Kumeu, but he has always been interested in fast V8 engined cars, building his first car in 1980. He competed in Ford Falcons and Mustangs for seven years with his brother, Bruce, and then changed to Camaros from 1988 to 2000.
Wayne built his first NZ V8 Touring car in 1999, and the further new cars each year after that. He currently owns and prepares three V8 Touring cars.
Wayne lives in West Auckland and is married to Lyn.
Glenn Middleton
As Manager of ORIX Team Racing, Glenn is responsible for overseeing all that makes the team function, co ordinating both the full time employees and many volunteers involved with the team, managing logistics, sponsor liaison and media relations.
Glenn's involvement in motor sport extends over 20 years and he is recognised as one of New Zealands most experienced rally navigators calling the notes in over 150 National and 2 World Championship events for some of New Zealands top drivers.
Equally as comfortable of the other side of a car Glenn also ventured into speedway winning the 1989 Auckland Saloon Championships at his first attempt.
A mechanic by trade Glenn is employed by ORIX as Manager Operations responsible for service, procurement and asset management.
