At ORIX NZ, we believe in giving back to our communities which is why we provide our team with two paid volunteer days every year. These volunteer days give our people the opportunity to support community causes that are close to their hearts.

We recognise that animals are an important part of our community too. Some of our Auckland team spent the day volunteering at the SPCA’s Māngere Centre — the largest and busiest SPCA facility in New Zealand. This centre includes a fully equipped hospital, an adoption centre, and a rangeof vital services that support animal welfare.

Each year, the dedicated SPCA team cares for more than33,000 animals who are lost, injured, abandoned, or neglected. As New Zealand’s largest animal welfare organisation, the SPCA has been making a differencesince 1872 — that’s 153 years of advocating for those who cannot speak forthemselves, their founding ethos.

From educating children, teachers, and communities aboutresponsible pet care to rescuing and rehabilitating injured animals and helpingthem find loving forever homes, the SPCA plays a crucial role in protecting ourfurry friends. We’re proud to support their work.

Our team saw first-hand the amazing work they do in theAuckland Centre. We enjoyed the opportunity to support their operations byhelping out with a few jobs:

·      We made some simple ‘enrichment’ toys for thecats and dogs from donated materials to keep them entertained and learnt somenew crafting skills in the process!

·      We transported pallets of donated food and bagsof litter across their large facility to the storerooms

·      We weeded a paddock in preparation forre-seeding it with grass, so the larger animals could graze on it.

·      And best of all, we got to cuddle a few kittensand puppies!

It was heart-warming to witness the kindness demonstrated bythe Auckland SPCA team and to learn about the great work they do to protect animals around New Zealand.
